I am SO excited for this blog series, because I finally get to share with you all of my tips and tricks for simplifying your everyday routines.
Let’s dive right into my first #hippiehack which is one of my favorites to tell people about:
If you didn’t know already, I have some major life-altering news for you…
I shower once a week.
I KNOW. Most people’s first response is “I could never do that” or “I HAVE to shower every day”.
I have to disagree with BOTH of those responses, because they are simply not true.
Any type of major routine change takes some time. Including detoxing your hair from nasty chemicals that are swimming in your shampoo/conditioner.
When I decided to detox my hair, I was showering every 2-3 days. My hair was SO greasy, extremely course, and my ends would break off in the slightest wind(not really, but basically). I dove right into the detox process by not washing my hair for a week. It was a TOTAL GREASE BALL.
To survive the week in public, I switched over to a $1 box of corn starch from Whole Foods. Works exactly like dry shampoo, except it eliminates chemicals, you avoid an aerosol can, AND you save money.
After my week was up, I decided to try what’s known as the BS/ACV method…aka baking soda and apple cider vinegar for all you hippie newbs.
1) Shampoo/Baking Soda
I will fill a mason jar with approx. 1/4 cup baking soda and take it into the shower with me. I’ll fill it up about halfway with water(see photo below), stir it so the baking soda is mostly dissolved, then I’ll begin pouring it throughout my hair and I’ll start massaging it throughout my scalp. Just like shampoo. Then I’ll rinse it out!
2) Conditioner/ Apple Cider Vinegar
After you’ve rinsed the baking soda out of your hair, you will do the same thing with Apple Cider Vinegar. I use about 1/4 cup ACV and then fill the jar halfway with water. Pour through your scalp and massage it in. Then RINSE OUT IMMEDIATELY. Don’t let the ACV sit in your hair too long. It just gives your hair a weird pomade-like texture the longer it sits.
*if you don’t like the smell of ACV, add 1 drop of Cedarwood Essential Oil to your ACV/water mixture.
For extra hair TLC, I will use this bottle of Hair Repair from Birchrose. It’s amazing
Super simple. Super eco friendly. Super hippie. Super money saver. It’s just super. I hate that I said super.
My hair is SUPER healthy, super thick, and grows like a weed. I’m honestly never going back.
That’s it! Missi’s first hippie hack. Comment below when you’ve given it a try!
