Skinny People Are Fat Too

You stand on the scale like every other person in the world does.

Staring at the number hoping it will be different than the last.

You've worked hard, and you're waiting for it to show.

You look at the number, but you're never satisfied with the results. You're not happy, because the number went down again.

I am what people may call "abnormally" skinny. My nickname was "bird legs" growing up, I had people ask me countless times if I was anorexic, I had people pull me aside to check if I was okay, or ask to pray for me and give support.

I get the nice two-finger-arm-pinch and the "get some meat on those bones" punch line at least every other month. I've spent my entire life just making a joke out of it, but it's not funny.

Here's the thing. Skinny people are fat too. I have self confidence issues because there is nothing I can do about it. I am just really skinny.

I can run every day, squat till kingdom comes, or burpee the shit outta life, and not much changes. Could I be more muscular/toned? Totally. Is it just as hard for me as someone who may be struggling with their weight? Yes.

Pants fall off of me, they're never long enough, or I attempt "boyfriend jeans" and look like an ass-less weirdo. I can't wear sleeveless shirts because I don't have shoulder mass to hold up the straps or arms that nicely fit through the gaping arm hole. Swimsuits? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Everybody struggles with something on their body. Man or woman. Don't pretend like your skinny jokes liven the room. Don't think that because I'm skinny, I don't struggle with what an overweight person might.

This post isn't intended to one-up you in how you may be feeling, or try and shut you up if you're feeling self conscious. It's to let you know that everyone has a struggle, but everyone also has a way to fix it. You get to decide how to make the best version of the body that you were created with. It takes hard work and perseverance, but you are the only one that can accept your own defeat. So don't. Check yourself before you talk about someone else's body. You can literally come up with ANY OTHER SMALL TALK TOPIC. Like shoes.

19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body[a] and in your spirit, which are God’s. - 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
